Interview

It just occured to me that I haven't mentioned how my interview went.

Remember this map?


This was where the mistake occured.
Taking directions from an oversimplified map is rarely a good thing.
My dad and I took one look at the map, saw the train station logo and thought the office was in the middle of Reading.

However, notice how it says Theale on the map.
The station on the map is not Reading station, but Theale.
(!)

I was wise enough to not have made a note of the office address or phone number. (lesson for the future)
Thanks to traffic, we reached Reading with 10mins to spare 'til the time of the interview.
I jumped out the car at the station and asked people for directions.
No one knew what I was talking about, no one.
I ran into town with my new white shirt, A3 portfolio and oversized 'handbag'.
Scurrying around on heels, I finally resorted to an internet cafe after asking dozens of people for directions.
I came across a man who didn't let me finish my sentence before saying "Sorry I'm on my way back to work!" while sticking out an invisible hand to keep me at bay.
Another man tried handing me a gospel leaflet, where I had to brashly apologise for rejecting it while saying "God bless you!" as I stumbled away.

At the internet cafe, the men attending to the place barely tried to help me; but I eventually realised I was in the wrong town.
I rang my dad in a panic, took a few photos of the information on screen and ran across town with him to the car parked back at the station.
We had no time to pay for parking, and made a run for it.
Thankfully there were no barriers we had to crash through.
I had even tried to ring 118 previously to find the number of the office, but there was no response. So much for the ads on Tv.

On the way there, as much as I had panicked; I was not freaked out.
Of course I had planned to be early or at least on time, so I had not prepared myself for arriving 45min late.
Once I was there, everyone was so pleasant to me; offering me water and being very relaxed.
I had my (supportive) neighbour and her Director look through my portfolio, complimenting my library design and how I have good taste in colour and materials.
My neighbour even highlighted the fact that I already had all the skills they usually need to train people for when they get the job.
But of all the questions I could have been asked, the director asked me what grade I was predicted to get for my degree.

*gulp*

I told him the truth, but mentioned how things are still subject to change.
They finally had to leave for a presentation and that was it.
I realised that I had forgotten to compliment the director within the first 30secs of meeting him, and wondered if I had acted enthusiastic enough.

Shaking my head, I decided to leave all worries behind and leave the outcome in God's hands.
This week, I'll find out if I got the job.
