Sometimes Singapore's Just Better
it's late, again.
so for once it's good being in a narrative mood.
it must be the music.
the only thing that won't hurt when it hits you.
its power only something i'm sure is from above.
i've been buying DVDs lately, and find myself painfully taking them back to the shop.
where money goes these days, and what comes out of it is shameful.
okay some might call it entertainment, but i find myself very capable of living without such.
yesterday was truly amazing, in a very quiet sort of way.
it left me plonkin' on my bed and dozing off almost immediately last night.
i woke up feeling like i'd taken a short nap, until i realised it was 11 in the morning.
i couldn't wait to brush my teeth.
today, however, has left me wishing i was back in Singapore.
just so i'd have the freedom to go out wandering in the middle of the night,
to some deserted place, with the wind as my music.
the power of words baffles me every now and again.
and how people take their word so lightly these days pains me.
all i know is that my words count, all of them.
let's hope that joy really does come in the morning.
tomorrow, another barbee waits for me.
all this sitting around, and the talking, and the eating, and the waving of hands!?!!
boy does the summer give you time to think.
i guess the more i think of myself, the sadder i get.
Hip Hop Hope:
now for the account of my amazing weekend, or my explanation of the clip.
i had heard of some breaking (break dancing) thing going on this saturday in Exeter.
and was hoping to go, but didn't take it seriously until S mentioned it and i thick-skinned-ly asked if i could go, despite being a bit of a phoney breaker.
thinking about it and watching a few breakin' videos online the night before had me so psyched.
i was only glad to have woken up late that morning, which always means the evening comes pretty quickly.
it took me so long to get dressed, had to look cool aey?
and look pretty all at one go.
we car-ed our way there with a lil' Grease-style racing on the highway.
the rest of the night was a pure celebration of the human body.
people doing crazy things even robots would struggle with.
and with boys being boys, i could tell most of them were secretly battling out moves.
i was happy just to watch really, until the girls started getting involved.
now that kicked up something in me.
so when they announced the Newby Battle, i thought this could be my only chance of getting in the circle.
the people that had watched me try before spurred me to get in the group, which i did very reluctantly.
i watched newby after newby get in there, without bracing myself on even going in.
before i knew it, the battle was over and the limelight was handed back to the pros.
while everyone enjoyed the post-adrenaline, i smiled and knew i'd missed it.
the more i watched after that, the more i realised how much i'd be kicking myself when i got home, if i didn't do anything.
i tried to make things easier on myself, and was asking someone to go in with me.
no one seemed to have grown enough boldness, not even the girl i forced in the end.
she was way better than me, had already gone in before, but was more scared than i was.
as usual, everytime i thought there was a chance for us to go in.
someone grabbed it and did a lil' feet moving.
until there was a pause with the pros taking a lil' breather.
and i just pulled her in with me and when you're under pressure and in a dark room with only one spotlight...
you're a completely different person.
we ended up doing what you all can view for yourselves.
when people describe their heart sinking to their stomachs, and you think they're exaggerating...
they're not, because that is genuinely how it feels.
as i'm now witness to that exactly.
Pics will have to wait i guess, but when they come, o boy you'll see 'em.
but before i go, i must say how surprised i was to receive an award at my architecture school's ceremony this afternoon.
i was only going along to see people, hence no handbags and gladrags for me.
after 2 wordy speeches, they were ready to give out awards with book prizes.
i braced myself for a considerable amount of clapping.
until out of no where, i heard my name.
"Jemima Wei."
my faced slid into a completely shocked look, as i walked in disbelief to the awards table, hands full of cameras and purses.

i rewarded myself with 2 pairs of The Incredibles socks on sale from the Disney Store and (my favourite) Little Mermaid face towel, which was slightly cheaper.
