It was like gold

yesterday morn i braced myself for 4 hours worth of lecturing promptly starting at 9.
reading my desktop weather forecast, i realised it was gonna be a long journey to this torture, with -3 degrees just beyond my coat layers.

i took my usual short cut to campus, but had a very uneasy journey.
at 9 in the morning, my town isn't your orchard road.
you could probably count the people walking past you with your fingers and toes.
what riddled me most was how i had to rub off almost every person i walked past that glared at me.
it was probably only 2 people that didn't even acknowledge my existance.

almost reaching my destination, i tried figuring if i looked weird just that morning or if i possibly had a line drawn down the centre of my face that caused such a dramatic response.
maybe my hair had something in it that i hadn't noticed or felt.
i checked and i looked perfectly normal.

as i thought, i sipped on my quickly made hot chocolate that seemed to take longer than normal to create on a morning i was arleady running late for.
in cartoon styley, the bulb above my head half-lit abruptly;
when i realised that i was a walking temptation on my completed journey.
the hot chocolate that i had been happily sipping had stirred such envy in everyone i walked past.

i was carrying gold.

my house has seemingly morphed into a smoke den, with simply 1 housemate starting a house party.
i pray hard for my cutlery and dishes, for their survival til tomorrow morning.
